What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books.
Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice." [Stanford University commencement speech, 2005]
Everyone has a right to a university degree in America, even if it's in Hamburger Technology.
Margaret Atwood, the Canadian novelist, once asked a group of women at a university why they felt threatened by men. The women said they were afraid of being beaten, raped, or killed by men. She then asked a group of men why they felt threatened by women. They said they were afraid women would laugh at them.
Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.
